Car Control Fundamentals
March 8, from 11 am - 1 pm. Berth 55 in Long Beach, CA.
Speaker: Ryan Robinson
Driving Instructor & Engineering Test Driver
Ryan Robinson is a professional driving instructor with a background rooted in both high-performance instruction and real-world vehicle development. He currently instructs at the Porsche Experience Center Los Angeles, where he works with drivers of all skill levels to build confidence, precision, and control in high-performance environments.
Beyond instruction, Ryan has contributed to vehicle testing and evaluation for Tesla, Rivian, and AMG, giving him firsthand experience with how modern performance, EV power delivery, and chassis systems behave at the limit. That combination, teaching drivers while also helping shape how cars are driven and evaluated, gives Ryan a uniquely practical perspective on car control.
Through his Shift Robinson platform, Ryan is known for breaking down complex vehicle dynamics into clear, usable concepts. His teaching emphasizes anticipation over reaction, smoothness over aggression, and understanding over memorization. Whether on track, in the canyons, or at speed-sensitive limits, Ryan’s approach centers on staying calm, balanced, and ahead of the car.
Car Control Fundamentals
Staying smooth, stable, and confident when grip is limited
Car control isn’t about saving dramatic slides — it’s about never needing to.
In this seminar, Ryan breaks down the fundamentals that keep drivers composed when conditions change, speeds increase, or mistakes happen. This is about understanding how the car moves before things go wrong, and knowing how to correct early, smoothly, and confidently.
You’ll learn how to stay ahead of the car instead of reacting to it — building habits that improve safety, performance, and overall driving confidence across any discipline.
What you’ll learn:
How grip is built, maintained, and lost
Early signs the car is approaching its limit
Proper correction techniques that don’t upset balance
Throttle, brake, and steering coordination under load
Why smoothness creates speed and confidence
How good car control applies to street, track, and spirited driving
Who this is for:
Drivers who want to feel more confident at higher speeds
Enthusiasts who’ve felt “behind the car” before
Anyone looking to improve control without flashy techniques
Drivers building a foundation for track days or advanced driving
This session focuses on awareness, timing, and restraint — the skills that make everything else easier, safer, and faster.
